Municipal railways (SKM)
The fastest and cheapest way to go across the Tricity is to take the SKM train (Szybka Kolej Miejska/Fast City Rail). The great advantage here is complete independence from the local traffic congestion which often causes headache to those travelling by car during rush hours.
If you have a valid student card (with current semester sticker) and are under 26, you can buy student tickets (51% discount) for the SKM.
Different kinds of tickets
Single journey tickets entitle the bearer to a single journey on one bus or one tram only. These tickets are valid from the time they are validated until leaving the vehicle. The tickets should be validated immediately on boarding the vehicle. Time tickets entitle to many journeys during 1 hour or 24 hours, allowing you to transfer to a different bus or tram. During the first journey the ticket should be validated immediately on boarding the vehicle. From this time on, the ticket is valid for the time indicated by its nominal value.
Tickets may be purchased In ticket vending machines or via online applications. Discount tickets can be purchased by students who hold a valid European Youth Card – EURO 26 STUDENT or the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) issued outside Poland (up to the age of 26) and to students who hold a valid student card issued by Polish universities.
