🎥 Roman Polanski’s feature debut and the only feature film shot in Poland whose premiere was accompanied by an atmosphere of scandal – the production differed from the Polish cinematography canon.
A couple pick up a hitchhiker (Zygmunt Malanowicz) on the way to their yacht. The husband (Leon Niemczyk) invites the young man to come along for their day’s sailing. As the voyage progresses, the antagonism between the two men grows. A violent confrontation is inevitable.
ℹ️ The movie was the first Polish candidate for the Oscar in 1964. It won the International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI Award at the Venice Film Festival.
▶ Cinematic Poland is an initiative of the Andrzej Wajda Film Center of the University of Gdansk, Medical University of Gdansk and the International Office of the University of Gdańsk, an unit established to cooperate with the foreign part of the academic community. One of its tasks is to familiarize foreigners with Polish culture, including the history of Polish cinematography. Thanks to Cinematic Poland, foreign students and employees will have the opportunity to watch both classic films and contemporary productions.
